两年多以前，我将《新托福iBT词汇分类突破》的书稿公布在博客上。去年，胖兔子粥粥自告奋勇为192篇文字加上了卡通插图。经过一年多的修订，这本书终于在上周下厂，国庆之后将上架销售。

过去的三年里，试用此书（测试版）的我的学生人数超过千人，反馈颇佳。至于放在博客上，究竟有多少人看到，就不是很容易统计了。从Google Analytics的统计来看，过去的一年里，该书的浏览量比《把时间当作朋友》还多。

节后，我将在博客上发起该书第一版第一次印刷的签名售书活动。敬请关注。谢谢大家支持。

乔恩•斯图尔特(Jon Stewart)年年都出现在奥斯卡颁奖仪式上（今天当然他还是会出现），他所主持的《The Daily Show》，现今已经播出第十多个年头——第一次播出是在1996年6月21日，不过最初是Craig Kilborn主持，乔恩•斯图尔特是从1999年1月份开始主持这个节目的。自从乔恩•斯图尔特掌镜之始，这个节目就开始更多地谈论政治与传媒。

乔恩•斯图尔特说自己的节目是“假新闻”（Fake News Program），但近十年来，许多美国人干脆就把这个节目当作自己的主要“新闻来源”。乔恩•斯图尔特什么都敢说，他的主要攻击对象是总统——无论哪一个总统。当然，过去的几年里小布什一直是最好的开涮对象；现在变成了奥巴马，每天都有很多搞头。

过去我一直看卫星电视。现在越来越没时间坐在电视机之前，好在有互联网。在YouKu.com上有The Daily Show的视频（一般比电视节目延迟10几天，但也基本上够了——谁也没空天天看）。在MiniNova.org上每到年初都有该节目上一年所有视频的打包下载。

心理学与经济学的长足发展是20世纪最重要的事件之一。心理学让人们能够更好地了解自己，经济学可以让我们更好地了解生存于其中的这个世界。（进入21世纪，心理学与经济学开始不断交互深入，使这两个“平易近人”的学科变得越来越有趣：昨天介绍的《The Paradox of Choice – Why More is Less》和《Audiobook 收集推荐帖》里提到的《Predictably Irrational, by Dan Ariely》都是非常有趣的书。）

斯坦福大学Philip Zimbardo教授^[1]——就是那个著名的PBS制作的《Discovering Psychology》系列节目的制作人兼主持人（在这里可以看到总计36集）——最近出版的书叫做《路西法效应：理解好人是怎样变成恶魔的》（The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil）。

路西法（Lucifer）是《圣经》中撒但(Satan)的别名，出现于以赛亚书14:12。 圣经中的路西法Lucifer是一拉丁字，由lux（光，所有格 lucis）和 ferre（带来）所组成，意思是光之使者，所以被说成天使中最美丽的一位。普遍使用的中文和合本圣经中的以赛亚书14:12-15这样描述：明亮之星，早晨之子啊，你何竟从天坠落？你这攻败列国的何竟被砍倒在地上？你心里曾说：我要升到天上；我要高举我的宝座在神众星以上；我要坐在聚会的山上，在北方的极处。我要升到高云之上；我要与至上者同等。然而，你必坠落阴间，到坑中极深之处。路西法译为“明亮之星”。根据基督教的观点，路西法曾经是天堂中地位最高的天使（炽天使），在未堕落前任天使长的职务。他由于过度骄傲，意图与神同等，而堕落成撒旦。 传说故事中的路西法一天，上帝带圣子巡游天界，让众天使向圣子下跪参拜。由于天使是没有实体的能量体，而圣子除了没有获得上帝的力量之外，其它都与上帝一样拥有实体，上帝认为拥有实体的圣子地位仅次于自己；而路西法则认为圣子力量太低，上帝让天使向圣子下跪是对其尊严的侮辱，于是率领天界三分之一的天使叛变。路西法极端骄傲和自信可以推翻上帝。不过，路西法和其军队失败了，被放逐并失去了……

The TED Conference, held annually in Long Beach, is still the heart of TED. More than a thousand people now attend — indeed, the event sells out a year in advance — and the content has expanded to include science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world. Over four days, 50 speakers each take an 18-minute slot, and there are many shorter pieces of content, including music, performance and comedy. There are no breakout groups. Everyone shares the same experience. It shouldn’t work, but it does. It works because all of knowledge is connected. In recent years, TED has spawned some important extensions.

TEDGlobal is a sister conference held every other year, and in a different country on each occasion. The first conference was held in Oxford, England, in 2005; the second, in June 2007, was held in Arusha, Tanzania. The themes of the global conference are slightly more focused on development issues, but the basic TED format is maintained.

The TED Prize is designed to leverage the TED Community’s exceptional array of talent and resources. TED.com的每一个讲演者的讲演内容都非常精彩（“必须的”），每个视频都提供打包下载。最近几天feedburner.com不知为什么又解封了，于是，可以订阅TED.com的Feed。很多话题都非常地有趣，比如“The bad news about the news: Alisa Miller on TED.com”讲的是“美国传媒是如何为渴望获得更多信息的大众提供更少信息的……”。

有些学生反映说“要是有字幕就好了”——其实，TED.com上有相当一部分视频是有完整的Transcript的：【点击这里查看TED上有Transcript的视频】。

柯林斯的《英语语法大全》原本英文书名是“English Grammar”，但中译本的编者却自以为是地为书名加上了个恶俗的“大全”两字。

一次偶然的机会，我发现《Collins COBUILD Dictionary on CD-ROM》(注意，不是“第五版”或者“2006版”，而是“第三版”）中实际上“暗含”了这本语法书。

安装Collins COBUILD Dictionary on CD-ROM之后，在检索框里面输入10.1之类的数字章节号码，就可以看到“Collins English Grammar”中该章节的内容。

我自己是经常需要检索这本语法书的，但Collins COBUILD Dictionary on CD-ROM没有提供正常的浏览界面，只是把这本语法书的内容“内嵌”在字典里而已。

于是，我用Auto-It写了个脚本，把“Collins English Grammar”的内容全部“拉”了出来，重新整理了一下html，大抵上是这样的效果：http://www.lixiaolai.com/misc/collins-english-grammar/。如果你想离线浏览，就点击这里下载压缩包。
