- 通读《Oxford Collocation Dictionary for Students of English》可能是最快、最好的方法。觉得有必要的话,就去买一本印刷版。

It is important to improve your vocabulary. But it is also important to improve your sentence structures so that 1) you can understand what the sentences say, 2) you get so familiar with the sentence structures and ways to express yourself so that you can do that without thinking.
Guessing at the meaning is good, so is looking it up in a dictionary. But I find the best is guess what the meaning is, and then look it up in a dictionary. If you are getting good at guessing, you are there.
My way to remember sentence structures, expressions and idioms is to read – out loud, so that your ear is getting familiar with the sound of the language, your mouth is getting used to say things correctly, and you start to tell what is the right sound for good English and what is not. Pick books, mostly fictions and stories, with conversations. You learn how to do conversation too. But the important part is, read out loud.
I find writing down the meaning of words worthless. It make me think that after I write it down, I remember it, which I don’t. I rather read more than just the meaning of the word, but also how it can be used. Make up some sentences with it in all its variations, tense, and parts of speech.
Another technique I use to enhance my comprehension is parsing. I parses long and complicated sentences – especially those encountered in technical journals – to really understand all the phrases in a sentence and their relation with each other. Then I practice by writing the same idea in short sentences, without loosing or adding meaning. Also write with words different from the original but carries the same meaning.
Parsing — good suggestion!
Oxford Collocation Dictionary for Students of English
