这句中的”After getting in over their heads in credit card spending years ago”，我理解的是“在偿还了一年以前从信用卡里所划的钱以后”，不知道对不对。第二个 In order to get rid of the unsold cars, they（automobile manufacturers） must cut the prices to whatever level is necessary to get them off the dealers’ lots, even if that means taking a loss.
这句中的”get them off the dealers’ lots”。我用thefreedictionary.com上给出的get off的意思全部带进去解释了一遍，还是不能理解。希望您解答，谢谢！

你的理解前半句正好反了。意译应该是这样：在不停地透支信用卡之后（在“过分地”“卷入”信用卡花费之后），他们终于财务状况良好了（比如说，他们欠别人很多钱，用信用卡不停地还账，最后尽管透支了很多，但总算不欠别人钱了——只欠银行的）。

这标题起的，让我羞煞啊，前几日我也请教了笑来老师的问题，结果无果，这回在参照一下，俺的问题实在是白痴无比。
我可不是为了让谁羞愧才这么写文章的啊。呵呵。
同感，感觉自己提的好几个问题太白痴了，所以无果。

这句是不是应该理解成“在费了九牛二虎之力还清多年欠下的信用卡债之后，他们的财务状况终于好转，但如果我们再犯一丁点错，来自负债的压力就又会回来，而那将是痛苦不堪的。”
to jw.wang: 还是理解反了。没有那个词可以让你得出“清还信用卡债”。

不好意思，我确实有误解了，问了一下同事，再查了一下GOOGLE，好像他只是单纯的说在经历了被 多年的“债务淹没”之后，things get in order。并没有说他是不是还掉 了。

把别人的钱还清后只欠银行的–这怎么能说是财务状况良好呢?在财务上是说不通的啊

我猜第一句意思是：由于多年多使用信用卡，所以他们现在以可以用信用卡管理他们的财务了。但如果不好好擅用信用卡，那么以往被混乱账单困扰的局面还是会出现。（美国人一般是用信用卡缴所有的bills）
第二句就比较简单啦，get them off the dealer’s lots 里面的lots是parking lots，所以就是卖出去的意思
那么，该“怎样确定搜索关键字”呢？除了运用发散思维联想，有没有一些实用的方法？
最实用的方法是“多尝试几个”。
