我认为最好的在线英文词典可能就是thefreedictionary.com了——在某些方面，甚至merriam-webster、wikipedia都比不上它。
有一次thefreedictionary.com帮我搞定flipping burgers究竟是怎么一回事儿，还有一次thefreedictionary.com帮我弄明白greasemonkey是什么意思。
这一次，又是thefreedictionary.com帮忙。
有学生问我“A miss is as good as a mile.”究竟是什么意思。我想，唉，问我干嘛，上网搜索一下不就知道了么？
转念又想，也许是他没搜到？于是我自己动手Google了一下，发现网上的中文文章里基本上都把这句话翻译为：“失之毫厘，差之千里。”
这哪里是因为“失之毫厘”而“差之千里”啊——干脆是“失之千里，差之无极”……

建议以后有什么东西搞不懂的时候，去查查thefreedictionary.com，而不是仅仅限于中文Google、中文百度、以及各种英汉词典什么的。

其实不需要一开始就查那个网站，将直接在Google中输入A miss is as good as a mile就可以了
只是不要先入为主的相信中文网站的解释就行了。
不知道thefreedictionary.com上的解释为什么那么拗口，其实只需要(something that you say which means that 这前面的都可以删掉)failing to do something when you almost succeeded is no better than failing very badly.
你该不会是用的Google.cn吧……建议换成Google.com
是不是可以翻译成行百里者半九十？
thefreedictionary在用，可惜我未能成功集成到Lingoes上，如果可以就实在太好了
我是把这个文件

的内容修改成：

——就是把我不用的网络词典地址全部删除了，第一行加上了thefreedictionary.com……
我的lingoes里的装了不少网络词典，其中句酷，网络释义和google词典都提供了正确答案，当然，也提供了错误答案，需要判断。
我觉得可以翻成：“行百里者半九十”
啊，我为什么用这个辞典的时候，只能搜索单词。。

自己动脑了，一直用的其的中文版，该句应该在英文版中的成语idioms搜索，

这个方法已经尝试了，它会另外开个默认的网页浏览器。而我所希望的是集成到Lingoes本身的词义显示界面框内。
我通常使用Opera浏览器自己定制的版本，浏览速度很快，如果借道Lingoes到thefreedictionary查词就没必要了。
另外，这个blog系统还是挺简洁的。就是没有quote引用的功能。。。

我认为urbandict是最好的。。。。特别是缩写。。。几乎是无敌的。
urbandictionary 也不错
我一般搜俚语 直接两个关键词 XXX+urban 就O了
